RetreatJhana

Jhanas, Satipatthana and Dependent Origination

March 3 – 16 13, 2023

13 10 nights
with

Leigh Brasington

NOTE: In consultation, Leigh and Tri-State Dharma have decided on the venue for the upcoming Tri-State Dharma  Jhana retreat. We yogis will be residential at Oakwood Retreat Center, but he will be joining by Zoom from California for the morning instructions, the evening dharma talk, and personal interviews.  He has done a retreat at BCBS  using this format and it worked very well, affording him the safety of not flying during the pandemic while giving yogis a retreat container that feeds us, surrounds us in Noble Silence, and supports us with a meditative sangha.

Because Zoom retreats are more demanding on the teacher (especially the whole-hearted way Leigh approaches teaching), the retreat will be shortened to 11 days (10 nights)–Friday evening 3/3/23 thru Monday lunch 3/13/23.  The retreat cost will be lowered to $1400.00.

This retreat combines the two main elements of the Buddha’s model of liberation: cultivating the meditative absorptions (jhanas), which lead to calm and clarity, and using the concentrated mind to gain insight in the nature of reality. We will not only look at the insight practices given in the famous Satipatthana Sutta, we will also delve extensively into the Buddha’s teaching of the dependent co-origination (paticca-samuppada) of phenomena. This course is limited to those who have completed at least two one-week or longer silent vipassana retreats.

It is Tri-State Dharma’s mission to make retreats available to meditators from Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana and beyond. To make these retreats affordable to all who wish to attend, the fees for each retreat are slightly less than the minimum amount needed to cover our expenses. This does not take into account the scholarships that we give for almost all retreats. If you are in a position to do so, please consider making a donation to Tri-State Dharma at the end of the retreat to help us continue this work. Thank you.

Tri-State Dharma is revising its cancellation policy and refund schedule, adjusting to the circumstance of living with the Covid-19 virus.  All cancellations will have a service fee of $30.  Cancellations within the last 3 weeks before the start of a retreat will forfeit the deposit unless the cancellation is medical in nature (Please, if you are ill we do not want you to come to the retreat!).  Any payments beyond the deposit will be refunded.

The cost of the retreat covers room and board and Tri-State Dharma’s expenses. Meditation teachers in this tradition are able to continue their work through Dana, or generous, voluntary giving by students. At retreat’s end, students have an opportunity to practice Dana by offering contributions. There is no specific contribution amount expected; give what feels right.   Please think of this as an integral part of practice.

To request a scholarship please Click Here to send an e-mail to Tri-State Dharma. No one will be turned away for lack of ability to pay.

If you cannot register using PayPal, please call Barb Huels at (513) 307-5343 to get instructions to pay by check.
