Joan Staubach

Joan served as the president of Tri-State Dharma for 4 years, and is an experienced practitioner of Insight Meditation. She taught the New Years Retreat the last 2 years, and co-taught it for 4 years before that. She has led daylong retreats, and taught numerous Insight Meditation classes. She has taken a training retreat with Matthew Flickstein on Sharing the Dharma.



 

Susan Stone

Susan Stone, Ph.D., has practiced formal meditation for over 25 years in the Zen and Theravada traditions. She has lived in Zen and Theravadan monasteries for 3 years. Ordained as a Zen lay priest, Susan is author of At the Eleventh Hour, about Mindfulness and caregiving. The book was nominated for ForeWord Magazine’s Book of the Year award for 2001. She is co-author of The American Mosaic, about workforce diversity; and is author of articles on mindfulness. Susan co-leads the Insight Meditation Community of Charlottesville, Virginia (www.imeditation.org ).She also teaches Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction at the University of Virginia where she is a member of the faculty. She founded a Mindfulness group at a maximum-security men’s prison, and currently co-leads a similar group at a women’s prison in Virginia. She is also a Reiki master who has worked with AIDS patients. Susan leads meditation retreats and workshops in a multi-state area.




Leigh Brasington

Leigh Brasington has been practicing since 1985 and is the senior American student of the late Venerable Ayya Khema. She confirmed Leigh's practice and requested that he begin teaching. Leigh assisted Venerable Ayya Khema starting in 1994. He began teaching retreats in 1997.

 


John Travis

John is a senior teacher with Spirit Rock in California and founder of Mountain Stream Meditation Center in Nevada City, California. He has practiced mindfulness meditation for over 30 years and completed a four-year teacher/counselor training with Jack Kornfield, author of A Path with Heart. He has studied eight years with senior teachers of the Tibetan and Vipassana traditions in India, Nepal, Thailand, and Burma. Trained by Jon Kabat-Zinn, John teaches stress reduction workshops, facilitates men’s groups, and co-facilitates ongoing Holotropic Breathwork workshops. He is a pastoral counselor and hypnotherapist. He has completed two years training in the Hokomi Method of body-centered psychotherapy.
